Venus Bay House

This robust beach house sits easily among the coastal tea-trees on the crest of a hill. Designed as a freestanding object with a series of internal and external spaces carved from it, the house offers shelter and solace from the sometimes harsh climatic elements of the south-eastern Victorian coastline.

It is a deliberately modest, cost effective house, built primarily from traditional beach house materials – simply detailed corrugated metal and fibre cement sheet, plywood and galvanised steel. This house is as close as we have got to a truly sustainable house to date, utilising photovoltaic cells, solar hot water, rainwater tanks and on site blackwater treatment systems.
