A new holiday home to house a large family is set in the scrub overlooking Tathra Beach.
On an exposed ridge in a bushfire area, the house is robust and honest in its construction. The design takes cues from the surrounding landscape, the undercut rock forms of the headland being reflected in a corbelled brick of the house.
Screening volumes of the entry wall and garage create a sequence of reveals on approach to the house. A chimney breast stands as a remnant of the brick cottage which once sat on the site, flanking the entrance to the new house and framing views to the ocean.
