Hordern Street

The alterations to this inner city house fit between the remnants of an old sandstone stable wall and the body of an old cottage. The addition is sympathetic to the form of the old cottage with the roof pitched up towards the street to capture light while maintaining privacy. The new steel framed volume is clad with pre-cast concrete panel ‘off-cuts’ that were dropped in on site. The sill of the clerestory glass above is set by the height of the stable wall and the clerestory head is aligned with the existing cottage parapet.

Local street artists D’Mote and Snarl were asked to return to the site to repaint their mural in colours that would compliment the new addition. The tags embedded in this artwork on the house act as a deterrent to new taggers who would otherwise tag the rest of the house.
