Venus Bay House

South Gippsland, Victoria

Our first freestanding house. It is a small, cost effective house that sits at the crest of a hill. It is built primarily from traditional beach house materials - simply detailed corrugated metal and fibre cement sheet. Designed as an object with a series of internal and external spaces carved from it, the house offers shelter and solace from the harsh elements of the south eastern victorian coastline. This house is as close as we have got to a truly sustainable house to date, utilising photovoltaic cells, solar hot water, rainwater tanks and on site blackwater treatment systems.
